Terms of Use

1. The short version

You create an account, tell us when and where you were born, and answer a questionnaire of 24 statements. With that, Quintessa calculates your birth chart, finds your temperament and, every day, sends you a short tip that crosses the day's transits with you. The basics are free. The Full Reading and Quintessa Plus unlock the full content. We don't sell your data, we don't show ads and we don't promise that a tip will change your day.

That is the spirit. The rest is detail.

2. Who can use it

You can use Quintessa if you:

• are 18 years old or older;
• can enter into a valid contract under Brazilian law;
• give true information about yourself. If your birth date, time or city are wrong, the chart will be wrong.

Quintessa is not for anyone under 18. If we find out an account belongs to a minor, we close it and delete the data.

Your account is personal. Sign in with Apple, Google or email, keep your access secure and tell us if you think someone else used your account.

3. The agreement

By creating an account or using the app, you accept these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy. If any of that isn't OK with you, don't use Quintessa. If you already created an account, delete it in your Profile and your data will be erased.

These terms change sometimes. When a change significantly affects your rights or obligations, we notify you in the app or by email at least 30 days ahead. Continuing to use the app after that date means you accept it. We keep older versions and email them to you if you ask.

4. What Quintessa offers

Quintessa is an app for iOS and Android that:

• calculates your birth chart from your birth date, time and city: planets, signs, houses, aspects and elements;
• identifies your temperament (sanguine, choleric, melancholic or phlegmatic) through a questionnaire of 24 statements, and lets you adjust the result if you don't recognize yourself;
• sends one tip a day for the first 7 days and then one a week (one a day with Quintessa Plus), at the time you choose, and shows the transits that produced it to those who have Plus;
• keeps your tip history, with favorites;
• lets you share your result and tips as images;
• lets you, if both people want it, link two accounts as a couple, to read the couple's reading, the map of frictions and care, the tips with a line about the other person and the “Before you talk” script;
• lets you export your data and delete your account whenever you want.

Everything works with your own data. We don't compare you with other people or publish rankings.

5. Full Reading, Quintessa Plus and the couple plan: purchase, subscription, renewal and cancellation

• The subscription is made inside the app, and billing is handled by the App Store (Apple) or Google Play. We never see or store your card details.
• The Quintessa Plus plans are monthly and annual, with no free period. The price, in reais or your country's currency, is the one shown on the purchase screen, straight from the store. The annual plan includes the Full Reading as a gift: it is yours forever from the first payment of the annual plan, even if you cancel the subscription later. If that first payment is refunded, the gift is withdrawn, unless you also bought the Full Reading.
• The subscription renews automatically, for the same period and price, unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The renewal charge is made within 24 hours before the end of the period.
• To cancel, go to your store account settings (Apple: Settings > your name > Subscriptions; Google Play: profile > Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions). In the app, your Profile has “Manage subscription”, which opens the right page. Deleting the app does not cancel the subscription in the store. When you delete your Quintessa account, on Google Play we cancel the renewal, so there is no new charge; on the App Store only you can cancel, and the charge continues until you do, so cancel first.
• If you cancel, Plus continues until the end of the period you already paid for. After that, your account goes back to the free plan, and your data and everything you already received, such as tips and weekly forecasts, stay with you.
• The Full Reading is a one-time purchase: it is charged once by the store, does not renew and is available on all your devices with the same store account. Deleting your Quintessa account does not delete the purchase in the store; when you create another account and use “Restore purchases”, it comes back.
• “Restore purchases”, in the app, recovers an active subscription and the Full Reading if you switch devices or reinstall the app.
• If the price changes, the store notifies you and, when required, asks for your confirmation before the next charge.
• The couple plan is an annual subscription that covers two accounts with one payment. The one who pays is the plan's owner: they invite the other person in the app, and that person doesn't need to buy anything. While the owner's plan is valid, both accounts have Quintessa Plus, and the plan includes the Full Reading as a gift for both. The price is the one shown on the purchase screen, straight from the store.
• If the owner cancels, both accounts keep access until the end of the period already paid. If the link is undone, the one who pays keeps the plan and can invite someone else; the other account loses what the plan gave it, such as Plus, and keeps what it already received, including the Full Reading received as a gift. Each paid period gives the Full Reading as a gift to only one person besides the owner: changing partner in the same period doesn't give another.
• Someone who already subscribes to Quintessa Plus can move to the couple plan paying only the difference: the store works it out and shows the amount before charging.
• If the payment of the couple plan is refunded, the other account's access and its gifted Full Reading are also withdrawn, as happens with the gift of the annual plan.

6. Payments and refunds

Because Apple or Google does the billing, refund requests follow the rules and channel of the store where you bought (Apple: reportaproblem.apple.com; Google Play: Google Play Help Center). We support the request and don't oppose refunds the store approves. Deleting the account does not entitle you to a refund of the period already paid, without prejudice to your legal rights.

Your rights as a consumer remain in force. Under the Brazilian Consumer Protection Code (art. 49), purchases made outside a physical establishment, such as those made on a phone, can be undone within 7 days of the purchase. If you need to, use the store's channel or write to hello@quintessa.me and we will help you route it.

If you were charged twice, charged the wrong amount or charged after cancelling, write to us with the receipt and we will sort it out with the store.

7. Invitations and referrals

Invite only people you know and who agree to receive the invitation.

If there is a referral benefit, such as Plus days when someone completes sign-up through your invitation, it has the limits shown in the app. We may cancel benefits obtained through abuse, such as fake accounts or accounts created only to earn the benefit.

A couple invitation is different: the link is for one person only, is valid for 7 days and only links the accounts if both agree. Invite only someone you know and want linked to you.

8. What you agree to do (and not do)

By using Quintessa, you agree to:

• use the app only for your own self-knowledge and the personal use provided here;
• not enter other people's data without them knowing and agreeing (for example, someone else's birth data to read their chart);
• use the couple feature only with someone who knows and wants to be linked to you, and never to watch, pressure or control anyone;
• not try to access other people's accounts or data, nor get around access rules, limits or the Plus paywall;
• not reverse-engineer, scrape in bulk, automate the use of the app or overload our infrastructure;
• not resell, sublicense or present as your own the content, interpretations or calculation engine of Quintessa;
• not use Quintessa to discriminate, harass or decide on hiring, credit or any matter where an astrological or temperament profile should not weigh.

9. Your data, your account

The data you enter and the results generated for you are yours. We only use what is needed to run the app (store, calculate, show back to you and send the tip), as described in the Privacy Policy.

You can export your data in your Profile, under “Export my data”, and delete your account under “Delete account”. Deletion erases your chart, questionnaire and tip history and, if you are in a couple, undoes the link and erases what was shared, and cannot be undone. Retention periods and exceptions are in the Privacy Policy.

The images you generate when sharing a result or a tip are yours to share, and carry the Quintessa brand.

10. What is ours

The app, the calculation engine, the interpretation and tip texts, the design and the Quintessa brand are ours or licensed to us. You get a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable license to use the app while your account exists. When the account ends, the license ends.

The app uses third-party material under free licenses, credited on the “About” screen: the city database is from GeoNames (CC BY 4.0) and the astronomical calculations use the astronomy-engine library (MIT).

11. The honest disclaimer

Quintessa is a self-knowledge and entertainment tool. Astrology and the theory of the four temperaments are historical and symbolic traditions and have no scientific proof. The tips are reflections inspired by those traditions, not predictions, and they don't guarantee any outcome in relationships, work, money or health.

The app's texts (the tips, the weekly forecasts, the readings, the map of frictions and care and the conversation script) are written with the help of generative artificial intelligence, from the chart and temperament we already calculated. A program checks the format and the vocabulary, but the model can be wrong or write something that makes no sense to you. Treat the texts as reflections, not facts.

Quintessa is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice, and does not replace a professional. Don't make important decisions based only on a tip. If you are going through emotional distress, seek professional help. In Brazil, the CVV answers 24 hours a day on 188.

The couple's reading, the map of frictions and care and the “Before you talk” script are not couples therapy and don't say whether a relationship should continue. If there is violence, fear or abuse in a relationship, seek help: in Brazil, call 190 in case of immediate danger; the Women's Service Line answers at 180.

The chart calculations follow astronomical data and are checked by tests. Even so, the result depends on the data you entered: without a birth time, the ascendant and houses are estimated.

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We work to keep it running and correct, but we don't promise freedom from faults or interruptions.

12. Limitation of liability

To the extent the law allows, Quintessa is not liable for indirect damages, such as lost opportunities or frustration with the content of a tip, nor for failures caused by third parties beyond our control, such as app stores, your carrier or the internet.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits rights that the law doesn't allow to be waived, in particular those of the Brazilian Consumer Protection Code, nor our liability for willful misconduct or gross negligence. If any part of this clause isn't valid where you live, the rest still applies.

13. Suspension and termination

You can stop using Quintessa whenever you want: cancel the subscription in the store, delete your account and take your data with you.

We may suspend or close an account if you:

• violate these terms;
• use the app for fraud, harassment or illegal acts;
• abuse our infrastructure or the referral rules;
• provide false information at sign-up.

If we close your account for one of these reasons, there is no refund for the period already paid, subject to your legal rights. If we close it without cause, for example if we shut the service down, we give at least 60 days' notice, give you the chance to export your data and guide you on how to request a refund of the unused subscription time from the store.

14. Service changes

We may add or remove features, change prices and change how the app works. For significant changes, especially price changes for current subscribers, we give at least 30 days' notice, and the store follows its own rules to ask for your confirmation when necessary.

15. Governing law and venue

These terms are governed by the laws of Brazil. As a consumer, you may bring claims in the courts of your place of residence, as provided by the Brazilian Consumer Protection Code and, outside Brazil, to the extent your local consumer law requires.

16. Contact

For anything about these terms, your account or requests about your data:

We reply to most messages within 2 business days. Requests about personal data, within 15 days, as the LGPD requires.

17. General provisions

• Entire agreement: these Terms of Use and the Privacy Policy form the complete agreement between you and Quintessa.
• Invalid parts: if a part of these terms is found invalid, the rest still applies.
• No waiver: if we don't enforce something once, we can still enforce it later.
• Assignment: you can't transfer your account to another person. We may transfer this agreement if Quintessa is sold or merges with another company, with notice to you.
• Headings are for navigation only and don't change the meaning of the clauses.
